Evaluation Visit of the MBKM Internship at PT BISI Tbk: Learning Experience and Field Innovation

Kediri, 5 May 2025 — The supervising lecturers from the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada conducted an evaluation visit of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) internship program at PT BISI Tbk. The visit began with a meeting with representatives of PT BISI Tbk, namely Budi Santoso, S.P., M.Sc., who serves as the Coordinator of the MBKM Internship program and is also the breeder for legume, leafy vegetable, and eggplant cultivars. Five students from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM who are currently doing the MBKM internship at that company also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, it emerged that the implementation of the MBKM internship at PT BISI has been running according to procedure and has provided a comprehensive learning experience for the students. They expressed satisfaction with the facilities and the knowledge obtained, both in classroom theory and in direct field practice.

The students are given the opportunity to learn about various divisions within PT BISI Tbk, from the Malang area to Kencong, Kediri. They are directly supervised by breeding assistants in the field, which enables them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. This aspect is highly appreciated by the students, who feel satisfied with both the facilities and the learning they have received during the internship. The supervising lecturers also made inspections of several of PT BISI’s facilities, such as seed storage rooms (cool room), seed sorting areas, and melon greenhouses. These facilities indicate PT BISI’s readiness as a professional internship partner, supporting practical learning for students.

With the successful implementation of the MBKM internship program at PT BISI Tbk, it is hoped that cooperation between UGM and PT BISI can continue to be enhanced in order to produce agricultural graduates who are ready to face future challenges.

This internship program also helps support several of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
