Master’s Program in Agronomy Hosts Guest Lecture on Current Issues and Future Research in the Upstream Palm Oil Industry

Yogyakarta, 14 July 2025. The Department of Agronomy organized a guest lecture entitled “Current Issues and Future Research in the Upstream Palm Oil Industry.” The lecture was held on Monday, 14 July 2025, from 10.00 to 12.00 WIB at the MMA Auditorium, third floor of Building A10, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

The event was opened with remarks from the Head of the Department of Agronomy, Rani Agustina Wulandari, S.P., M.P., Ph.D., who emphasized the importance of synergy between academia and industry in addressing challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly in the palm oil commodity, which remains one of the main pillars of the national economy.

The guest speaker for the session was Dr. Azis Natawijaya, S.P., M.Si., Head of Corporate Development at PT Bumitama Gunajaya Agro. In his presentation, he discussed various current issues in the upstream palm oil industry, including sustainability challenges, productivity constraints, and future research directions that can support innovation and efficiency in the field.

In addition to the presentation, the guest lecture featured an interactive discussion session. Students actively participated by raising questions and engaging in dialogue regarding research opportunities that can address industry needs while simultaneously supporting sustainable agricultural development.

Through this guest lecture, the Department of Agronomy contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education by providing relevant and applied learning opportunities, SDG 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth through strengthened collaboration between academia and industry, and SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production by encouraging research and sustainable practices in the palm oil sector.

The activity reflects the Department of Agronomy’s commitment to developing competitive human resources while contributing to sustainable agricultural development in Indonesia.
